Join Our Crew for a Day
The Northern Ohio Railway Museum is currently finishing the restoration of Shaker Heights Rapid Transit Car 303. This historic trolley arrived at our museum in Seville back in 2009 with extensive damage on one end. Our dedicated team has spent years repairing the structure and reversing the effects of time. We are now entering the final phase of this project.
You can play a vital role in bringing this car to regular operation at the museum. We are looking for partners who can contribute a single day or more of work to help us reach the finish line.
Why Your Help Matters
Our restoration team can handle the heavy mechanical and structural engineering. The finishing touches require many hands. When you volunteer for a day, you free up our restorers to focus on the most complex systems.
You do not need a museum membership
to participate in this project.
Restoration Tasks for All Skill Levels
We have specific tasks available for various skill levels. You will work alongside our experienced volunteers to complete these essential steps.
- Interior and Exterior Painting: Help us apply the finishing coats to the trolley body.
- Woodwork and Carpentry: Assist with the fabrication of wooden interior components.
- Metal Work and Body Repair: Smooth out the dents and scrapes earned over a century of service.
- Electrical Systems: Help rehabilitate the vintage wiring for modern operation.
- General Shop Assistance: Provide an extra set of hands for a variety of manual tasks.
Plan Your Service Day
We invite you to visit the museum starting May 23 to see the progress on Car 303 in person. You can speak with our crew and see where your skills fit best. This is a chance to put your hands on a piece of Ohio history. Your help allows Car 303 to once again offer trolley rides to visitors of all ages.
