This Model DDT diesel hydraulic locomotive worked for the Holcim US (US) Corp., formerly Dundee Cement, in Independence, Ohio before donation. Here this critter switched covered hopper cars into a facility that transferred dry cement into trucks for shipment to concrete batch plants. The term critter refers to industrial size locomotives, most under 25 tons. They are small when compared to the 150+ ton locomotives that power mainline trains, hence the term critter. The Plymouth Locomotive Works of Plymouth, Ohio built over 7,500 small industrial locomotives from 1910 to 1999. They ceased operation in 1999. The locomotive is in service as a valuable member of the Museum’s work equipment.
