A Space for Young Conductors
Located outdoors on the museum grounds, the Discovery Track is a shaded, covered space where children and families can slow down, play, and connect with history during their visit.
What You’ll Find
- Hands on History Table: Explore everyday objects from more than a century ago, from household items and tools to historic transit equipment. Museum educators are available to help visitors discover how these artifacts connect to the streetcars in our collection.
- Interactive Farebox: Try a working vintage farebox and see how passengers paid their fares before modern transit passes and ticket machines.
- Train Play Area: Children can run miniature trolleys and trains along our custom eight-foot track display or enjoy imaginative play at our classic wooden BRIO-style train table.
- Coloring Station: Take a break with transit-themed coloring pages, crayons, and a small seating area designed for young artists.
Visiting the Discovery Track
- Part of Your Visit: The Discovery Track is open on regular operating days and is included with general museum admission.
- Best for Ages: The train tables and coloring station are especially popular with children ages 2–10, while guests of all ages can enjoy exploring the artifact displays and interactive farebox.
- Self-Paced Exploration: Stop by before or after your guided tour and streetcar ride. Families are welcome to explore at their own pace, play together, and ask questions along the way.
