School & Group Field Trips at NORM
Bring your students out of the classroom and onto the tracks. Located in Seville, Ohio, the Northern Ohio Railway Museum offers schools, daycares, and student organizations an immersive, screen-free field trip experience that brings local history to life.
Rather than looking at history behind glass, student groups experience it firsthand: hearing the hum of electric motors, talking directly with the people who restore our vintage equipment, and seeing how public transportation shaped communities across Northeast Ohio.
What Students Experience at NORM
1. Close-Up Railway History
Groups can walk through our preserved collection of historic electric railway cars, getting close to equipment built between 1895 and 1970. Our exhibits and tours are adapted to match the age level and interests of your students, touching on local history, engineering, science, and the daily lives of early 20th-century citizens and railway workers.
2. Meet the Restoration & Operating Volunteers
One of the most memorable parts of a visit is meeting the people who care for the museum.
- Conservationists share the hands-on craft of restoring wood, metal, and mechanical parts on vintage cars.
- Operating Crews demonstrate the systems that make an electric railway run and answer questions about how these machines operate.
3. Hands-On Learning Activities
Depending on the age group and focus of your visit, students can take part in guided activities, examine historical objects up close, and explore the museum grounds in a way that fits your classroom or organization goals.
4. A Historic Streetcar Ride
Every field trip includes a ride aboard one of our historic streetcars along our private operating line. Hearing the trolley bell, feeling the movement on the tracks, and experiencing the same transport used by past generations brings the entire visit together. For many students, it is the highlight of the day.
